Direct Impacts

We need to be clear about the words 'activity', 'aspects', and 'impacts', and how they relate with each other. They are key words in ISO 14001 and replace words like "hazards" and "effects" that we used to use.

Activity

The activity is what your organisation is doing. There are many activities that go to make up of the overall process in the organisation. Activities include making anything, servicing, maintenance, painting, and cleaning.

An aspect is any part of an organisation's activities, products, or services, that has the ability to interact with any part of the environment - land, air, water, and living things.

An aspect is the part of the process or activity that starts to interact with any part of the environment. It has the potential to impact. It is the interface between work and the environment.
