Partnership initiatives are an important element of the outcome of the World Summit for Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg 2002.

There can be partnerships between countries, private companies and public services, government and business, NGOs & local authorities and with key groups, particularly women, farmers, indigenous people, and youth. Social partnerships between employers and employees have the potential to deliver real environmental improvements.

No one person or organisation can hope to resolve all the issues embodied within sustainable development.
