New MRLS
New maximum residue levels have been issued for acetamiprid, atrazine, deltamethrin, imazalil, indoxacarb, pendimethalin, pymetrozine, pyraclostrobin, thiacloprid and trifloxystrobin in and on cereals, fruit and vegetables. The new MRLs will apply from 15th June 2008 for acetamiprid, imazalil, indoxacarb, pendimethalin, pymetrozine, pyraclostrobin, thiacloprid and trifloxystrobin and from 15th September 2008 for atrazine and deltamethrin.

Extension of Authorisations
Provisional authorisations have been granted for boscalid.  Permission has been granted by the Commission for Member States to extend these authorisations  until November 2009.

Suspension of withdrawal of metalaxyl
The regulation requiring the withdrawal of authorisations for products containing metalaxyl (on Co-Op Monitored list) has been suspended and the time period for the product to be authorised has been extended to 30 June 2010.

Pesticides England and Wales Regulations 2007
Amendments to the regulation has been published. The regulation substitutes or inserts:
The Pesticides (The Pesticides (Maximum Residue Levels in Crops, Food and Feeding Stuffs) (England and Wales) (Amendment) (No.3)  Regulations 2007 S.I 2998
This regulation provides MRL's for 1-methyl cyclopropene, etoxazole, indoxacarb, MCPA and MCPB, mesosulfuron-methyl, tolyfluanid, triticonazole and penconazole which came into effect 17th November 2007. Maleic hydrazide, azoxystrobin, cholorfenapyr, folpet, iprodione, lamabda-cyhalothrin, metalaxyl and trifloxystrobin which came into effect 27th November 2007. Diazinon came into effect 28th December 2007 and phenmedipham which will come into effect from 21st January 2008.

The Pesticides (Maximum Residue Levels in Crops, Food and Feeding Stuffs) (England and Wales) (Amendment) (No.4)  Regulations 2007 S.I 3297
This regulation provides MRL's for azoystrobin, chlorothalonil, deltamethrin, hexachlorobenzene (HCB), ioxynil, oxamyl, quinoxyfen which came into force 19th December 2007. Dithiocarbamates, propineb, thiram and Ziram to come into force 19th March 2008 and bifenazate, pethoxamid, pyrimethanil and rimsulfuron to come into force 6th April 2008.

Export/import of dangerous chemicals
What you need to know
EC regulation has been amended so that the following chemicals have been added to list of chemicals subject to export notification procedure and  qualifying for Prior Informed Consent (PIC) notification .

Dimethenamid, phosalone, alachlor, thiodicarb, carbosulfan, haloxyfop-R, carbaryl, trichlorofon and malathion have been banned for pesticide use.

Perfluoroctane sulfonates are severely restricted for industrial use.

Fenitrothion, dichlorovos, diazinon and diuron. These substances have been identified and notified for evaluation under Directive 98/8/EC and therefore may be continued to be authorised by member states until a decision is taken.

Azinphos-methyl and vinclozolin, no directive was adopted for these two active substances therefore member states were obliged to withdraw national authorisations of plant protection products containing these substances as from 1 January 2007. Therefore these active substances are banned for pesticide use.
