Criteria

The list of criteria (in left hand navigation bar) is based on the Ethical Trading Initiative's Base Code. (ETI)

The ETI Base Code was negotiated and agreed by the founding trade union, non-government organisations (NGO) and corporate members of ETI.

The Base Code contains nine clauses, listed here on the left hand navigation bar. These reflect the most relevant international standards with respect to labour practices (ILO Conventions). Our tenth criteria (continuous improvement) helps to achieve the other nine.

The Co-op believes these criteria will:

  1. Further the basic philosophy or platform from which ETI identifies and develops good practice.
  2. Provide a generic standard for company performance to demonstrate the labour standards required by the criteria, and that this constitutes a minimum requirement for any corporate code of labour practice.
  3. Helps the Co-op implement the ETI Base Code in their supply chains and report annually on their progress in doing so.
