Co-op Code on Use of Agency Labour

The Co-op expect their suppliers (labour Users) to:

  • Ensure all LPs are registered on the TLWG website www.lpcode.co.uk and have had, or are booked to have, an audit.
  • Only use Licenced LPs when the Gangmaster Licensing Authority introduces licence scheme in 2006
  • Take part in TLWG audit process as and when required
  • Screen to ensure LPs meet the TLWG code requirements
  • Have a contract / Service Level Agreement with each LP
  • Take responsibility for training workers as their Health and Safety is your responsibility on site
  • Carry out a risk assessment in relation to temporary workers
  • Check original ID of all Agency Workers
  • Pay overtime premium and ensure a premium is passed on to workers
  • Pay LPs a rate that allows them to meet their legal obligations (minimum wage, contributions) before profit margin
  • Review rates on a regular basis particularly if there is an increase in minimum wage

Talk to workers

No matter how many document checks you do, you will find out if workers are being exploited by talking to them in confidence. You should find out if they are being treated fairly by their employer and encourage an open door policy.
