Every year, more than 2 million people world-wide die of work-related accidents and diseases. (ILO Ref) More than 160 million workers fall ill each year due to workplace hazards. The poorest, least protected - often women, children and migrants - are also among the most affected. Micro- and small enterprises account for over 90% of enterprises where conditions are often very poor and the workers in them are often excluded from all labour protection.

Good health and safety management reduces risk to your workers and to your business.The first step to improving working conditions is to carry out a risk assessment. This is a careful examination of what could cause harm to people, to make sure that no-one gets hurt or become ill. Step One: Look for the hazards Step Two: Who might be harmed and how? Step Three: Decide whether you can remove the hazard Step Four: If not, how can you control the risk? Step Five: Draw up an action plan. Step Six: Follow up to check actions have been completed
