Waste Impacts - Water 3

Mechanisms within the organisation may fail and excesses or other materials enter the sewage system.

Certain chemicals are persistent and not removed by standard sewage treatment and enter our drinking water.

Waste in landfill breaks down and releases "leachates". These are compounds that can dissolve in water and "leach" through the soil.

The leachates end up in water courses, unless the landfill is totally insulated from the land..
