Waste Impacts - Land

Land land

The main impacts of waste on land are:

  • Land taken out of production for landfill space
  • Contaminated land
  • Leachates into surrounding area

There are different categories of waste:

  • Controlled Waste is commercial, industrial and household waste.

  • Section 17 or Special Waste includes acids and solvents that need handling and disposing of with special care.

  • Difficult Waste is a category in between special waste and controlled waste. Substances such as fibreglass cladding come into this category and containment is usually necessary when handling and transporting these wastes.

Legislation dictates how these materials must be handled, transported, contained and disposed of.
