Email

Electronic mail - or email - is one of the most useful tools on the internet, type a message, click send, and it whizzes across the world in minutes!

An email address is a name followed by the symbol @ and then the name of the computer to send the message to.

You can work out where somebody is from (by the final two letters of the address), what they do (whether business - co, academic, ac or organisation - org.) and the organisation they are from.

Hyperlinks

Hyperlinked texts are in blue and underlined. By moving your mouse over a blue and underlined word or phrase a hand symbol will show. Jump to the linked document or web page by clicking the left mouse button.

To return to the original document click the 'back' button on the toolbar. If you wish to save web URLs (addresses) for use at a later date, click your right mouse button followed by 'add to favourites' (MS Explorer) or 'bookmark' (Netscape). The URL will automatically be added to your Favourites/Bookmarks.

When you move from one web site to another you are "surfing".
