Step 1 Pesticide Legislation, Regulations & Standards

In addition to legislative requirements the Co-operative Group has established a list of approved pesticides using a trigger approach. It is the responsibility of the supplier to ensure that all the produce purchased for the Co-op conforms to this list.

Active ingredients are allocated the following status by the Co-op:

Banned: Must not be used under any circumstances.

Prohibited: Not allowed unless there are exceptional circumstances, and a permit has been sought and granted for their use.

Monitored: These actives can be used, however the Co-op are monitoring their application.

No restrictions: Active ingredients that are fully approved for their intended use.

To ensure that produce meets the standards set by the Co-operative, suppliers must keep up to date with the Co-operative Pesticide Code of Practice and approved list of pesticides.

The Code of Practice is available here as a pdf. Extracts from the CoP can be found in blue- shaded boxes throughout the steps in this programme.

An up to date spreadsheet showing the Co-op status of actives is maintained on this site.

To access the database you will be asked for a user name ( co-op supplier number) and password - you will be given a password at the training workshop which you may change later to one of your choice. You will then automatically be linked to the appropriate report page where you answer the questions online. You can save your record at any point. You will add (and save/submit) records as you take each of the 7 Steps. More on the database in "Guide" - via "Help" button.
